Yuma, AZ – Long-time and widely respected Certified Public Accountant, Dan Gray, of Terkelsen, Smith, Tyree & Snell, PLC announced that he will retire from the firm he helped to found. Mr. Gray was licensed as a CPA in California in 1973, and later Arizona in 1974. He joined the public accounting firm of Vitolins and Loo of Yuma after he was licensed. A few years later he proved to be a tremendous asset for the founding partners and was offered a partnership in 1976. Gray helped the firm grow thanks to his down to earth personality, understanding of the value in strong relationships, and sense of partnership with his clients.
In 1997 Gray invited Tim Terkelsen to join the firm, and upon the retirement of the founding partners, the firm then became known as Gray and Terkelsen. Dan is well known for his expertise in tax and accounting which serves agriculture, automobile, construction, real estate development, and medical professionals. His successful career started with his foundational education, having received his Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting from San Diego State University in 1970. He has been a member in good standing of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Arizona Society of Certified Public Accountants.
“Dan is an outstanding professional and truly a great friend,” said Tim Terkelsen, senior partner of Terkelsen, Smith, Tyree & Snell. He continued, “We all will miss his mentorship, wisdom, and good whit in the office every day, but know it will be hard for him not to want to come in from time to time.” Gray, known for his quiet form of leadership, has been a tremendous mentor to all his partners at the firm. In addition to Mr. Terkelsen, the firm’s other partners include one of the founders’ daughter, Mara Tyree, who joined the firm in 1998. There have been two new additions to the partner pool in past several years, including Carol Smith and Douglass Snell. All of the partners have been touched by the remarkable career of Dan Gray.
Gray plans on spending time with his lovely wife, children, and grand children between Yuma and San Diego, where the Gray’s maintain a home. Dan has certainly touched the lives of many in Yuma and surrounding areas. He has been part of the business community’s success. “Without a doubt Dan Gray has been an outstanding member of the business community for over 37 years. We’re a better firm thanks to Dan,” concluded Terkelsen.
